In Vitro Fertilization Suite

Daniel Kenigsburg, MD, Chief of Reproductive Endocrinology at the Long Island IVF Program at Mather Hospital is the first and most successful program of its kind on Long Island. More children have been born through our program than any other on Long Island. Our embryology laboratory is ranked among the best in the US, one of only 56 of all programs nationwide in 1994 to meet the demanding standards of accreditation of the College of American Pathologists.

Mather offers state-of-the-art micromanipulation techniques such as sperm injection into a single ovum (egg) and assisted hatching in which a hole is made in the shell surrounding the embryo permitting better implantation in the uterus.

The new IVF procedure room and embryology laboratory are entirely located within our new operating suite. This ensures patient privacy during technically delicate and emotionally sensitive procedures. It also contains sufficient space for support staff to be located within the suite and for the training of future embryologists.

Long Island IVF was established in August 1988. We continue to deliver high quality medical care in our three convenient locations.

LIIVF continues to maintain our standard of excellence. Our three physicians each hold the distinction of membership in the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI) To be a member of SREI a physician must be Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (click to list requirements) and Subspecialty Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. This latter qualification is the highest level of achievement in the field of reproductive medicine as it relates to infertility and hormonal conditions. Fewer than 800 physicians have achieved this special distinction.

Mission Statement

As physicians and health professionals dedicated to the treatment of disorders of the female reproductive tract and reproduction, we pledge to deliver to our patients the best possible care in a warm and supportive environment.

We are sensitive to the emotional, physical and financial demands that infertility can place on a person or couple.

At Long Island IVF, we work to help every patient develop the best possible plan in order to achieve the best possible outcome. While achieving this plan we make every effort to increase the patient's understanding of the process so that the patient can make informed decisions about their treatment.

In-vitro Fertilization

In-vitro Fertilization is the process of fertilizing an egg outside the body in a laboratory setting. After your physician has determined that IVF is needed, you will need to complete additional screening, which includes:

1. IVF Interview

This is done by a member of our IVF team and takes about an hour to complete. It includes a review of your health history and an overview of the IVF process. An IVF calendar is completed for you. Your calendar includes daily medications, appointments, estimated egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and pregnancy test dates.

2. Social Worker Visit

3. Blood work screening for any health or communicable conditions which may be present.

You and your partner will be screened for conditions such as HIV, blood type and Hepatitis B and C. The female undergoing the procedures will also be tested for conditions such as exposure to rubella (German Measles), varicella (chicken pox), and CMV. They will also test for anemia, infection, liver function, thyroid function, etc. These tests will be more fully explained to you when you go to the IVF Interview.

4. Water Sono

5. HSG

6. Injection teaching to learn how to administer the medications you'll be using in your cycle.

7. All the medications you will need for your cycle will be ordered by a nurse on our staff.

The pharmacy will then contact you for your insurance/payment information.

8. You will need to call Mather Billing to set up the financial part of IVF at 631-476-2802.

This must be done prior to starting the stimulation part of IVF.
