Quality
of life is often a consideration for patients with cancer or
other diagnoses that call for infusion treatment. Recognizing
this, Mather Hospital offers the Outpatient Infusion Center
as an outpatient alternative for individuals requiring infusion
therapy.
The Outpatient Infusion Center at Mather Hospital allows
patients more control over their treatment schedules. Instead
of having to be admitted to the hospital or visit a busy
emergency room for treatment, patients can make an appointment
and relax in a reclining treatment chair, watch television,
listen to music or simply read and rest.
Mather Hospital’s experienced nursing staff combines
high standards of clinical excellence with individualized patient
care. All nurses are credentialed in chemotherapy administration
and most are oncology certified nurses (OCN).
- Blood product transfusion – for patients with inadequate
blood counts due to various illnesses.
- Outpatient chemotherapy – Therapeutic treatment
for patients not requiring hospitalization.
- Phlebotomy – Because iron is carried in the hemoglobin
of red blood cells, removing blood can effectively lower
the body's iron stores. Patients with hemochromatosis and
other related diseases undergo weekly phlebotomy treatments.
- Antibiotic infusion for patients no longer requiring
hospitalization for treatment lymes, pericarditosis, osteomyelitis.
- Remicade infusion for patients with rheumatoid arthritis
and Crohn’s disease.
- Gamma Globulin Therapy – For patients with autoimmune
disorders.
- Venous Access Devices – to maintain patency between
infusion therapy.
- PICC line insertion and flushes – For patients
on long term antibiotic therapy.
The center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through
Saturday by appointment.
