Mather now offers a high-precision, robotic-assisted partial knee replacement procedure as an alternative to total knee replacement for patients with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis that is generally limited to one portion of the knee. Orthopedic surgeons use an advanced computer program that relays precise information about the knee to a hand-held robotic tool that assists the surgeon during the procedure. This robotic-assisted procedure is also available for some total knee replacements. Read more about partial knee replacements on the Wellness@Mather Blog.
Total and partial joint replacement allows people who cannot get relief from non-operative treatments to move past the pain that plagues them and reclaim their lives by reducing pain, increasing motion and function, removing any assistive devices and allowing you to return to work, sports and the activities of daily living.
Our program includes a Post Anesthesia Care Unit, a dedicated orthopedic nursing unit and a personalized physical therapy program. Based on your physician’s and physical therapist’s recommendations, and insurance authorization, you may be discharged to acute rehabilitation, to Mather's Transitional Care Unit, to sub-acute rehabilitation in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, or home with home or outpatient physical therapy. Our team will work with you to verify your insurance eligibility and benefits.
Mather has earned the prestigious Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which recognizes healthcare organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Mather also is the only Long Island hospital to earn four stars from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for patient experience, safety, and timely and effective care measures since July, 2016.
Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR)
Mather Hospital is participating in a Medicare initiative called the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model. The CJR model aims to promote quality and financial accountability for care surrounding lower-extremity joint replacement (LEJR) procedures, commonly referred to as hip and knee replacements and/or other major leg procedures. Mather Hospital's participation in the CJR model should not restrict your access to care for your medical condition or your freedom to choose your health care providers and services. All existing Medicare beneficiary protections continue to be available to you. Read more.
The CJR model permits hospitals to engage in financial sharing arrangements with other health care providers, who are called CJR Collaborators. This helps to further improve quality of care and reduce costs. Mather's CJR Collaborator is:
