Follow-up Care

If something suspicious shows on a mammogram, ultrasound, or a breast MRI, it can often be evaluated through a simple needle biopsy. In the past, most breast problems were treated surgically in the operating room. Today, less invasive techniques like stereotactic needle biopsy, ultrasound-guided core biopsy and ultrasound-guided cyst aspiration are used. These are outpatient procedures that typically take no more than15 minutes.

To ensure maximum patient comfort, generous local anesthesia is given and emotional support is provided by all staff members. Women who undergo needle biopsies at the Fortunato Breast Health Center often comment on how the biopsy was pain-free and so much better than they had anticipated.
