Brain & Spine Tumor Program
The Brain & Spine Tumor Program offers a multidisciplinary team approach to the diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Our expert team of surgeons, physicians and highly experienced staff work together with the commitment to developing individualized care plans for each patient. You and your family will be informed and involved throughout your entire treatment process.
Brain and spine tumors vary greatly in how they respond to treatments. The type of tumor, its size, location and your individual medical history are all taken into account when developing a treatment plan and gathering the specialists needed to participate as members of your care team.
At your first appointment you will meet with the Co-Directors of the Brain & Spine Tumor Program, a medical oncologist and a neurosurgeon. At this appointment an initial exam will be conducted along with a thorough review of your medical history. A plan of care will be developed for you with input from medical oncology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology and neuropathology.
Your next appointment will be with members of your personal care team to discuss your individualized treatment plan.
At Mather Hospital's Brain & Spine Tumor program your personal care team comes together all in one convenient location, and depending on your diagnosis, may consist of specialists including:
- You - as the patient you are the center of this team and the most important partner in care
- Oncologists/ Radiation Oncologists
- Neurologists/ Neurosurgeons
- Neuro Physician Assistants and Nurses
- Neuro Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists
- Case Manager
We are with you throughout your whole treatment journey, and with the help of our Neuro-Navigator, you and your family will have ongoing guidance and support through each phase of care. The Neuro-Navigator will assist with scheduling appointments, managing medications and act as liaison with all of your various care team members.
